Greater Oswego-Fulton Chamber of Commerce Looks to the Future
(Progress Edition Press Release)
1/31/08
Oswego, NY – 2007 was a landmark year for the Greater Oswego-Fulton Chamber of Commerce as it celebrated its first anniversary. The first year of the Greater Oswego-Fulton Chamber of Commerce proved to be a successful one as the chamber coordinated a number of networking events for its members as well as several community events that have become highly anticipated, must attend happenings.
From members only events such as Business After Hours, Perc Clubs, and the Small Business Week Celebration to the Taste of Oswego, Pumpkinfest, the Independence Day Parade, Fulton's Rock the Block, and community concerts such as Tunes in June and the West Linear Park concerts the Greater Oswego-Fulton Chamber of Commerce has had a profound impact on both the business climate and the quality of life in Oswego County.
In 2008 the chamber welcomed a new board president, Nick Canale, Jr. of Canale's Restaurant. Canale follows outgoing co-presidents, Jeff Coakley of Oswego Health and Paul Foster of Foster Funeral Home. "We are pleased to have Nick as president of our board," said Executive Director of the Greater Oswego-Fulton Chamber of Commerce, Jennifer Hill. "Jeff and Paul did a wonderful job overseeing our merger last year and worked diligently to help position the chamber for continued growth and a strong future. I'm confident that Nick will provide our membership with the same high level of commitment and dedication that they did and continue to lead the chamber to new heights in 2008."
According the Hill, the main role of any chamber is to support their members by offering services and information in many different areas that allow the businesses to operate to their full potential and realize the goals they have established for themselves. "We appreciate the opportunity to meet and speak with our membership to determine what it is they need to accomplish this. In addition to helping our members with the tools they need to succeed the chamber also works on our members behalf as a strong voice when it comes to dealing with pertinent business issues on both a local and regional level. Those efforts proved to be even more effective in 2007 as the chamber is now a much larger and more influential organization," said Hill.
As the chamber moves forward in 2008 it realizes that serving its members is its primary task.
"We want to make sure that all of our businesses, regardless of size or location, feel benefited by the services that we offer at the chamber," added Hill. We want to assure our members that the chamber is a place where they will feel comfortable to turn to for information and guidance. Any and all input given by our members is always welcome."
The chamber anticipates 2008 to be an exciting year as they continue to increase membership and encourage members to become more actively involved with the chamber and reap the full benefits of their chamber membership.
The chamber's many sub-committees have outlined an active agenda for 2008. Comprised of dedicated and concerned chamber members these committees work hard to ensure that the chamber continues to meet the needs of its members, effectively represents the business sector in the greater Oswego-Fulton area, and enhances the quality of life for our community.
The Government Affairs Committee will continue to work with the chamber's Board of Directors and membership to monitor and establish government affairs initiatives important to our membership so that their concerns can be voiced to our representatives and legislators on key issues effecting business not only in our area, but across the state as well.
Once again the chamber is planning a full slate of great events for 2008. These events are enjoyed by both the membership and the community and do much to enhance the quality of life.
"Many of our events last year were bigger and better than ever before as we worked to maintain the unique traditions of each community. In 2008 we will continue those efforts and strive to energize the business climate and improve the quality of life wherever we sponsor events" added Ms. Hill.
