Pumpkin Signs to Benefit Pumpkin Festival

Individuals and businesses will have the opportunity to show their support for the Great CNY Pumpkin Festival by having their own pumpkin sign on the grounds during the festival.

The Greater Oswego-Fulton Chamber of Commerce Pumpkin Festival Committee is offering individuals, businesses and organizations the opportunity to have their name hand painted on pumpkin signs that will be displayed throughout Washington Square Park during the Great CNY Pumpkin Festival.

Pumpkin signs are available in three sizes; 18” signs are $50, 24” signs are $75 and 30” signs for $100. All proceeds will be used to help grow the Great CNY Pumpkin Festival.

Scheduled for October 4th & 5th in Oswego’s Washington Square Park, the Great CNY Pumpkin Festival is one of New York State’s premier pumpkin festivals. The event draws hundreds of festival goers and some of the finest pumpkin growers in the northeast and Canada.

Project Bloom Continues to Blossom

Since 1995, the Greater Oswego-Fulton Chamber of Commerce Project Bloom has continued to bring colorful displays of flowering baskets, boxes and gardens to the City of Oswego. Through the successful partnership of generous sponsors and dedicated volunteers, the program has been responsible for beautification in five city parks, twenty-two planters, sixty flowering hanging baskets that line the city streets throughout the spring and summer. In addition, the program includes twenty decorative banners.
The Project Bloom committee designs, plants and manages the ongoing care of all of the flowers, beds and baskets. The Project Bloom committee, with assistance from the City of Oswego, designs, plants and manages the ongoing care of all of the flowers, beds and baskets.

Project Bloom sponsors support the effort at many levels, including our Corporate Partners for Parks. Constellation Energy has generously supported the Veteran’s Park site, located along Oswego’s favorite waterside venue, the Riverwalk West, since 2002.

This commemorative area is dedicated to Oswego’s veterans who served our nation in times of war. Prior to Project Bloom involvement, the Veterans Park suffered from overgrown shrubs planted too close to the monuments, and offered little space for flower displays. Since coming under the care of Project Bloom, this area has been greatly enhanced through the addition of new plant material and more attractive plantings, all which complement the beauty of the monuments.

This year members of YP Voice of Oswego County have volunteered to assist Project Bloom with the landscaping in Veterans’ Park. YP Voice President, Dan Laird explains. “During a conversation with Project Bloom Committee Chairperson, Randy Ziegler at a Chamber Perc Club meeting he asked if YP Voice would be interested in helping with the clean up of the West Linear Veterans’ Park Project Bloom site. I took the lead on the project, gathered some YP volunteers and went to work. In addition to cleaning up the park we also planted flowers and put down new mulch. Everyone involved enjoyed working on the project and were happy to play a part in beautifying Veterans’ Park. Joining me on the project were my daughter Kaleigh, YP Voice Treasurer, Amanda Baker and her daughter, Haley, and YP Voice members David Depasquale, Chrystal Hoyt and Beth Alferi.”

The generosity of local individuals and businesses, such as Constellation Energy and YP Voice provide the financial support and physical effort that is needed for Project Bloom to succeed. These coordinated efforts allow Project Bloom to continue to beautify the community.

Comprised of a volunteer committee of businesses and civic-minded citizens, Project Bloom strives to improve the aesthetic appearance of the City of Oswego during the traditional growing season.

“Project Bloom is a hard-working committee that relishes the enjoyment of lovely flowers during the spring, summer and fall in our very attractive community by the lake," said Randy Zeigler, chairman of the Project Bloom committee.
