SUNY Oswego is a public university that is a part of the State University of New York (SUNY) system. It is located in the small town of Oswego in central New York, not far from the city of Syracuse. This school was founded in 1861 and its motto is “To Learn, To Search, To Serve.”

Students and alumni

SUNY Oswego is considered a medium-sized university. There are currently about 7,400 undergraduate students enrolled and about 1100 graduate students. The university has a network of over 73,000 living graduates. This size is largely due to the number of programs that the school has to offer. It is actually composed of four separate colleges: The School of Business, the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the School of Education and the School of Communication.

Sports and athletics

The school’s teams are called the “Lakers” because of Oswego’s location in the Fingerlakes region of New York. Their colors are dark green and yellow. Men’s and women’s basketball, track and field, tennis, swimming, diving and cross country are just a few of the sports offered. The Ice Hockey team has an excellent reputation and was named the NCAA Division III ice hockey National Championship team in 2006.

Students activities and social life

The Student Association at Oswego organizes hundreds of clubs for students. The Oswegonian, the school’s official paper, is also student-run. Fraternities include Delta Kappa Kappa, Delta Sigma Phi, and Zeta Beta Tau among others. Sororities include Alpha Epsilon Phi and Omega Phi Beta.

SUNY Oswego is a medium-sized university with a good mixture of strong academics and fun social activities. It makes a great choice for many undergraduates and graduate students.
